Comments: Jim is a brother, a friend, a hero and an inspiration to me. His picture hangs in my house and my office and gives me the strength to fight this bastard disease Parkinson. Thanks to Jim, I am living life to the full and shaking my fist at Parkinson. In my view this is the greatest Site on PD and I would like everyone afflicted with PD to visit it regularly. Comments: I saw an article about Jim in the local paper here in Riverside, CA. At the time, I was in recovery for a back injury suffered when I was pinned between a forklift and a semi truck trailer. A couple of weeks ago I paid the 2.95 and searched the newspaper archives for the article, which listed this website. You are an inspiration, Jim. I am now looking into purchasing a recumbent, although I am not sure I can convince my wife of the $2,795 price tag (Just the bike, not including tax, shipping, or all of the accesories that I would need ie wheels and tires, zZipper fairing, and B.O.B. "Yak" trailer and mounting bracket), especially since I am not able to return to my profession due to my injury. Thanks though, Jim for your inspiration. I am hoping to come across a good deal on one! Keep Bikin'!

Comments: It's great what you do. But is it just your attitude? What did you do else to fight PD? I don't understand how you have been able to cut down your meds without the common signes of adiction and stronger pd symptons. Do you know Janice Walton at Santa Cruz CA? She does give treatment to unmedicated pd patients.

Comments: Jim, I saw you at the snack stand at San Jose and was coming back to talk with you and we had a problem and I could not get back. Sorry that I did not get a chance to talk and get caught up on things. It makes  me happy to see you take this on and succeed with everything that you have done. I still remember the day you told me you were leaving Serendipity because you were feeling so bad. You keep up the good work and keep me on your e mail list, I would still like to have you back driving the Amtrak Santa Cruz service. take care .

Thanks, Dick Bush

Comments: Very inspirational story (when does the movie come out??) Hopefully reading the article about you in the "News Express" and visitng your fine website will help to motivate me to ride/train more often. Now that the weather is getting colder and its getting darker earlier, I'm definitely getting lazier. Keep up the good work!!

Comments: Parky, I was very upset when I read about the low life scum that stole your trike. But, then I stopped to consider how you were dealing with the set back. And as I read and re-read the article again and again. I felt that this was just a minor stumbling block and nothing else to you. Looking on the bright side, had your trike not gotten stolen, you might not have gotten the extra exposure in the Press Enterprise newspaper. Your story inspires me to get out and ride my own bike and train for the 2004 Mt. bike season. Best of luck to you I hope to someday meet you on the road.

Comments: Hey Jim! Any chance you'll be riding the LA (Acura) Bike Tour with Team Parkinson this year? I hope all is well with you. I've slipped off my training schedule due to injury and the flu, but I'm still hoping we'll have a big Team Parkinson effort this year.

Comments: Hi I was trying to return the e-mail but could not make it work. Maybe you did not get my other one. Anyway, I am glad to hear that you are still going strong. I am on my second recreational kayak and it is great.....am trying running with a walker to start as otherwise it takes time to strengthen the legs. However am most interested to hear all these comments from such motivated people. Am just going to get my runners on. Somebody stole my "granny bike" so will have to get another. Maybe recumbent this time. All the best exercise is the best medicine, keep on taking the Park out..love to all Diana

Comments: Hey Jim!! I was recently diagnosed with "GD" (Graves Disease). I'm a bent rider who's Doc says to slow down for a while. You and your trikes are an inspiration!!! I'm thinking of a trike for myself, not to slow down, but so I don't have to worry about getting dizzy and taking a dive off the bike path. thanks Jim, Susan in Wa State

I'm trying to sell my Cannondale now so I can get a trike since it will be safer for me! I've had Brain surgery 2X but I miss riding so much!
I hope to get the new bike soon! Maybe I'll see you on the trail! Sherry;)

Comments: Hi Parky-
Met you when you stopped in front of my house to wait for the rest of the group to catch up during the last leg of Ragbrai.
That was no coincidence. Having been on the side-lines of a normal active life since 1995 due to a head injury which left my balance "off", I was pretty much convinced that there were no options for me other than to sit and watch the big dogs run by.
Then came Ragbrai and Parky just happens to stop 10 feet away from me on a slick rig which does not require staying on 2 wheels!
Thanks for not giving up...you might well have saved me. I will be in touch with questions about how to get started for sure.
Best wishes - Alan

Comments: I just read the RAGBRAI report. You're
a good writer and you have a good
attitude. I also was at the Omaha
meeting. The testimonial you gave for
exercise reducing stress was a good
message. I shared it with member of the
Columbus, NE support group for
Parkinson's disease. Up until then we
heard only a testimonial from a man who
had a Medtronic's implant. Our slogan
is 'If your moving your winning.' and
the hospital is starting a wellness
program in November for people with
Parkinson's disease. The exercise room
has a recumbent bike. Husker fan!

You have come a long way and it looks like you are doing what you were put on this earth for. I remember a long time ago you asked a Methodist preacher what were you here for? Do you remembet that? Maybe you have been working up to this for a very long time. Hang in there and have faith. Dotti :)

I'm just a few days away from retiring and want to spend as much time as possible on my Easy Racer TE, doing longer distance events and rides. At age 62 I get a lot of inspiration from your story. Hope to see you out on a trail soon.

Comments: 28,000 in 4 years: I now have a new goal thanks to you! I am a cyclist and was diagnosed with stage 1 PD last March. In hindsight though it all started 3 years ago when I was 46--PD just creeps up on everyone and early onset is easily missed by the medical community. The good news is thus far just my left side is effected. Ropinirole and seligiline have produced good improvements. I will forever refuse to give up on this. Thanks for the great website. I will check back often.javascript:%20addSmiley('=)')
